Sharing Your Story
God calls us as Christians to be salt and light to those in need of Him. Our personal testimonies act as a bridge, providing familiarity and commonality between the believer and the seeker. Many times, though, we don’t fully understand how to present the Gospel in a relationally effective way. Lifetree strives to provide insight and training that will prove useful as we go into the community and share the “Good News” of Jesus Christ.
If you’re interested in sharing your faith story, here’s how to begin:
- Form a Relationship: God and faith are topics that are not always readily accepted by those not in a personal relationship with Christ. By forming a relationship with someone, your actions and conversation lead to doors of opportunity to witness and share your story. These lifelong relationships provide a framework where mentorship and guidance can develop and take place.
- Tell Your Story: Today’s culture craves real, down to earth people who understand the aches and pains life presents. There isn’t a magic formula to sharing your story or faith for that matter. Rather, when the time’s right, openly share the struggles you’ve faced, incorporating how the grace of God gave you inspiration and hope. Be yourself. Be real. Be relevant.
- Present an Opportunity: Whether it’s through an invitation to church or a prayer in your living room, leading someone to Christ can happen anywhere and at any time. The best part, you don’t need a theology degree to do it.
Here’s how:
- Answer any questions your friend has about God and what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Be patient with your friend and provide appropriate guidance until he/she is ready to invite Christ into his/her heart.
- At the right time, ask if your friend would like to accept Christ as his/her Savior.
- Pray with your friend, asking him/her to repeat what you pray. Check out seeking God for a sample prayer you might use.
- When it’s all said and done, help your friend get connected to church. Church involvement will help develop your friend’s walk with Christ.
- Continue to pray for your friend and provide support.
